An oldie today – written when I was 17, perhaps?
In a world of disproportion
and a pageant of injustice
where creation is disowned and God ignored;
where truth is disregarded
and salvation is rejected
and compassion lies defeated on the floor –
This is where we live,
and where our cheap ambitions
are simply to gain positions of more worth;
where a baby in a manger
is merely for the season
and no one can imagine peace on earth.
If in this broken culture
we cannot find the room
for repentance and forgiveness and for grace,
then God help us in our madness,
for revenge and disillusion
can never even hope to take their place.
