days like these

the view from here

I am struggling against tiredness at the moment – the busyness of November and December is making its effect known.  I came across this poem I’d scribbled in my notebook some time ago, and since it feels rather applicable, I’ll share it here.

on days like these
when I have nothing left
I feel bereft of all
the hopes I had on waking
the tiredness taking
all I thought I had to give;
how do I live

when strength is gone
and all is wrong
on days like these?

on days like these
when I have nothing left
the grimly deft fatigue
unpicks the stitches of
my feeling, always stealing
my tender dreams
tearing the seams
of my believing
leaving me grieving
on days like these

Be merciful to me, O LORD, be merciful to me
for in  you my soul takes refuge
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge
until the destroying storms pass by

– Psalm 57: 1-2
