Aren’t fingers funny?

Was sifting through some old writings and discovered the following poem. It reflects my fascination with the ordinary…or, perhaps, not so ordinary. Ahem. What kind of day was I having, I wonder?! Have you ever been struck by the shape of your hand, or suddenly doubted the spelling of a simple word?

Aren’t fingers funny?
And don’t even talk about toes
And those weird gaping holes they call nostrils
right at the end of your nose

It’s all about concentration
Stare hard enough, it’ll look strange
Are there really four letters in easy?
Or am I just turning deranged?

Let’s all waggle our earlobes!
let’s all wiggle our chins!
lets knock together our knobbly knees
and paint all over our shins!

Aren’t fingers funny?
And don’t even talk about toes
And those weird gaping holes they call nostrils
right at the end of your nose

Don’t ask me the why of this poem
I simply need something to do
and the fact is that eyes are amazing
but I wouldn’t want yours without you

Let’s stretch our arms out and giggle!
Let’s flail our legs from a chair!
Let’s crawl about in the kitchen!
Let’s all slide down the stairs!

Aren’t fingers funny?
And don’t even talk about toes
And those weird gaping holes they call nostrils
right at the end of your nose
